The Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) set the 90-90-90 goals in 2014 to help end the AIDS epidemic. The goals are:
90% of people living with HIV should be diagnosed
90% of those diagnosed should receive antiretroviral therapy (ART)
90% of those treated should achieve viral suppression.
The United States is on course to reach the 90-90-90 goals in the near future, with 86% of persons with HIV aware of their infection, 74% of persons with diagnosed infection in care, and 83% of persons living with HIV in care with viral suppression. There is still significant room to improve..
Our Impact
Healthful Data partnered with a leading provider of treatments for HIV to understand the barriers to diagnosis and access to treatment for HIV medicines. Through series of engagements and quantitative data collection through our platform, Healthful Stories was able to help our partner identify key barriers to treatment and uncover novel ways to address these systematically.
Some of the unique challenges we identified and dimensionalized include: poor health literacy, poor financial literacy, stigma, lack of transportation, housing instability, and more. Some of these were easily addressable through additional investment in direct-to-consumer education efforts, which increased tremendously as a result of our work.
